Description
Kokoa Kamili is an incredible social enterprise based in the lush Kilombero Valley of Tanzania.
They are completely redefining what ethical cocoa looks like, which is exactly what bean to bar chocolate is all about.
Their model is brilliantly simple: instead of farmers fermenting beans at home with inconsistent results, Kokoa Kamili buys “wet” beans directly from nearly 3,000 smallholders at a premium price—often 25% above the market rate. By handling the fermentation and drying centrally, they ensure world-class quality while putting more money directly into the hands of local families.
Beyond the paycheck, their impact is felt throughout the community. They’ve distributed over 600,000 cocoa seedlings to farmers and work closely with the neighboring Udzungwa Mountains National Park to balance agriculture with wildlife conservation. It’s a rare “triple win” where the farmers earn more, the environment is protected, and we get to enjoy some of the most vibrant, fruity chocolate on the planet.
It’s a beautiful example of how a thoughtful business can lift up an entire region.
This chocolate is one of my favorites to date. I find it wildly fruity, rich and immensely satisfying. I do hope you enjoy it!
