Bean to bar chocolate, homemade confections, conserves, cakes and bakes.
Faraway Garden is a business born out of a passion for nature, starting with making jam from the fruits of my allotment. I now source most of my fruits and veg locally (where possible; its always a work in progress!) and in the summer there is always something from my plot in the collection. The packaging is plastic free and I encourage people to bring their own pots and storage boxes on market days to limit the amount of unnecessary waste. Did you know at Rotterdamse Oogst farmers market there is also an area to wash your plastics tubs so you can enjoy a take-away there, wash it out and then take something home with you too!
I grew up in the north of England and moved to Holland in 2004. I missed the comfort foods from home and, since I already had a love for cooking, started making homemade classics myself (for example, pork pies, lemon drizzle cakes and fig roll biscuits). Every time I went back to England I would be excited to try all my old favourite foods again but increasingly found that the taste and quality of some favourites just didnt do it for me anymore. Through mass production a lot of delicious cakes and bakes had lost flavour and become too sweet. So I made my own, using the best ingredients I could find and there has been no going back since!
I use only bean to bar chocolate in my assortment. My cocoa beans are always sourced from suppliers who are passionate about exceptional taste, sustainability and delivering a fair price to cocoa farmers. I am trained by Mackenzie at the Next Batch bean to bar chocolate school and have my certificates in Mastering Chocolate Flavor by Ecole Chocolat and the level 2 certificate from the International Institute of Chocolate and Cocoa Tasting.

Michelle
